I was recently listening to NPR and they were talking about Cheryl Tan’s “A Tiger in the Kitchen” and she had to learn how to improvise in order to learn how to cook “Singaporean” cuisine. Yet, even though she had to learn the skills to improvise when cooking, the key to learning how to cook the cuisine was by being mentored by an “expert”, her aunt. Learning the recipes to cook a delicious meal is a little like learning how to manage your money. It’s helpful to have a mentor or coach who has had many years of experience learning the skills need to handle money. Improvising is a good thing once you have learn the basics but you need to learn the basics first from an expert in order to be able to apply them and “improvise”.
Recipe of the day:
Ingredients
- An expert (coach/mentor)
Directions
- Listen and learn from the expert before you “improvise”.
